Bernice Shadow

Bernice Shadow, a Woodland Cree from High Prairie, Alberta is a consultant/facilitator and owner of Beyond Traditions Consulting. This company offers assistant to companies wishing to build positive working relationships with aboriginal people. Ms. Shadow has been working with Ripple Effects Ltd. for 4 years as a Lead Facilitator for the Aboriginal Awareness Training Workshops in Western Canada.
Ms. Shadow was one of the first Administrators of the North East Native Advancing Society of north eastern BC. Bernice has many years of experience in training program design, implementation, and administration specific to the aboriginal people.
Ms. Shadow was the First Nations Education/Cultural Coordinator for School District #60 - Peace River North for a period of 5 years. In this time Bernice assisted in building positive, respectful working relationships between the aboriginal people and the School District. Bernice guided the negotiation and signing of the Terms of Reference, implementing a Needs Assessment, completing 54 of the 55 short term goals, increasing the graduation rate and decreasing the drop-out rate, and developing the Aboriginal Support Worker Program.
Ms. Shadow recently was employed with Grande Prairie Regional College, as the first Aboriginal Program Coordinator. Bernice assisted in the development of the Aboriginal Development Center and was responsible for designing and implementing education programs customized to the needs of the aboriginal people regarding workforce development. During her employment with the college, Bernice guided the Grande Prairie Regional College and the City of Grande Prairie/Aquatera in signing the Aboriginal Workforce Participation Initiative.
Bernice is an active volunteer in any community she resides in. Some of her passions include volunteering for Victim Services, being a member of the Aboriginal Workforce Participation Initiative Steering Committee for the City of Grande Prairie, and a member of Rotary International.
Bernice has also been a President of the Keeginaw Friendship Center, Board Member for the provincial board of the Native Courtworker's and Counselling Association of BC, member of the First Nations Advisory Committee for UNBC, member of the North Peace Adult Education Committee and the Peace River Holistic Society.
